Our Journey in LLumar Car Tinting
Once upon a time in 2005, I embarked on a journey into the world of numbers and equations, pursuing a BSc. in Mathematics and Statistics at Kenyatta University. But let’s be honest, life’s all about that sweet balance, right? So, by day, I was crunching numbers, and by night, I was a kitchen cabinet wizard and wallpaper extraordinaire for a Korean interior design company in Hurlingham.
Fast forward to 2009, and I was donning that graduation cap, ready to dive into the world of banking. I joined the Co-operative Bank Card Centre in 2010, thinking I’d found my calling. But the universe had other ideas. On January 23, 2012, as the Ocampo Six were revealed, I decided it was time to chart my own course. Valentine’s Day 2012 wasn’t just about love – it was about my freedom!
I jumped headfirst into the quirky, thrilling world of wallpaper hanging – a concept that was as new to Kenyans as a cat on a unicycle. But life loves a good twist, and soon, clients started asking if I could tint their car windows. Challenge accepted! I began outsourcing the installation to some tint guys in Nairobi West, but quickly realized I was just a spectator in my own game.
Determined to take the reins, I decided to master the art of tinting. My first step? Ordering seven car tinting DVDs from Express Window Films USA. Yep, an entire DVD collection dedicated to the fine art of car tinting. It might not sound thrilling, but those DVDs were pure gold, answering all my questions and showing me how the pros in the USA did it.
But before I could become a tinting ninja, I had to pay my dues. I became a ‘mtu wa mkono’ (apprentice) for tint installers in Nairobi West. Picture this: waking up at 5 am, arriving by 6 am, and waiting patiently until the shops opened at 10 am. I was in survival mode, often going without food, and embracing the grind for four months – all in the name of mastering tinting.
Now, here we are, 12 years later, and I’m still pouring my heart and soul into LLumar car tinting. I’ve seen it all, learned it all, and I’m here to share that expertise with you.
